The year was 1992, Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was on the stereo, 'Basic Instinct' graced our cinemas and 'Shabby Chic' infiltrated our homes.

Collecting, picking and dealing Mid-Century furniture since the early 1990s, Dean Angelucci developed a passion that would grow and evolve into a 25 year business. A sharp eye studying photography at VCA and strong aesthetic sensibilities, Angelucci was able to turn a university hobby in to a full time career. Young appreciation for early giants including Featherston, Krimper and Meadmore at a time when beige and pine furniture adorned our interiors allowed Angelucci to hone his knowledge of local design and source quantities of Australian vintage furnishings.

"Our parents had all this furniture"

Establishing a retail presence under 'Plasma' in Prahran in the late 90s Angelucci continued to collect and refine his product offering. As public appreciation for the innovative and well-made designs from the 50s and 60s grew, Angelucci was now able to source internationally with a focus on Scandinavian and European design, bringing the rare and unusual back to Melbourne. Shifting to High St Prahran as 'Angelucci 20th Century' the restoration of Mid-Century design allowed Angelucci to employ a small team of craftspeople commited to the preservation of quality furnishings.

The rise of apartment living and ergonomic demand led to the design and development of a range of locally produced bespoke sofas, the 'Hollywood' and 'Slimline' lounge and reintroduction of an outdoor favourite the Butterfly chair, back in to local production. Moving North of the river to Smith Street in 2009 our commitment to sustainable furniture through restoration and working with local tradespeople continues and commitment to bringing Melbourne unique 20th Century vintage design.

From the crew at Angelucci - A big congratulations to Dean Angelucci for the energy, passion and determination it takes to run and grow a small business over 25 years. An early design enthusiasm has now grown to a team of people committed to the restoration and preservation of 20th Century design. Thank you to the collectors, regulars, designers, our suppliers, local tradespeople and new faces who allow us to continue this exciting journey of bringing rare and unique design to Melbourne. Your support is incredible and we look forward to the adventure ahead.
